MENA Women Speakers Campaign for Equal Opportunities

“Gender Diversity & Inclusion in Events Report” analyzed over 60,000 event speakers from 2013 to 2018 in 23 countries and found that more than two-thirds (69%) of all speakers were male, while less than one-third (31%) were female. When they narrowed it down to what they called “Internet-focused events,” 79% of speakers were male and 21% were female. “Computer software event” speakers were 75% male and 25% female, and “IT services” speakers were 80% male and 20% female.

In conclusion almost 70% of all event speakers are male.

When we analyzed MENA Speakers’ own data of speaking engagements from 2016-2020 then we found that the number looked more dire. As the leading Speakers’ and MC bureau in the Middle East then we believe our data is showing a true reflection of the market.

We take great pride in highlighting diversity considerations to corporations and event organizers but it appears that more needs to be done. For International Women’s Day in 2020 we launched the campaign to highlight all the incredible MENA Women Speakers that are experts, have a voice and can provide diversity of thought to the many stages around the region.

We have already had 100s of women connect with us and tell us that they can and are able to provide value and speak up. We would also like to reach 1000 experts and speakers so that we can quiet down the excuses as to why there are manels (male panels) or male speakers only. So join the campaign of #NoExcuses and help us give 1000 reasons and resources to why we shouldn’t have 70% but rather 50% of both male and female voices heard.
